At SPS 2025 we presented the outcome of our collaboration with HEIDENHAIN, a big player in encoder technologies. The partnership aims to offer innovative and high-performance solutions for the future of industrial automation, combining the high power density of Lafert Ultra Compact servo motors with the precision of HEIDENHAIN encoders with EnDat 3 interface.
Ultra Compact Servo Motors by Lafert: power in compact sizes
Stefano Dessanti, Sales Manager at Lafert, introduced the Ultra Compact servo motors – "cutting-edge solutions designed to ensure exceptional dynamic performance in ultra-compact sizes. Available in five sizes, these motors offer up to 30% more torque density and a size reduction of up to 20%, making them ideal for applications that require high dynamic performance and maximum power density, such as printing machines, robots, and material processing machines."
The EnDat 3 Interface HEIDENHAIN: the heart of precision
The advantage of this collaboration lies in the technology of HEIDENHAIN encoders with absolute EnDat 3 interface, chosen for its ability to provide fast and reliable data transmission, including specific motor parameters and sensor information. This ensures the highest level of communication between motor and drive, resulting in a significant improvement in the precision of the entire system. "Lafert and HEIDENHAIN together offer innovative and high-performance solutions for the future of industrial automation" – Davide Giovanni Pagani, Area Manager of HEIDENHAIN.
The key advantages of the EnDat 3 interface are:
• Precise Control and Customization: The integration of EnDat 3 with Lafert Ultra Compact servomotors allows for precise speed control, high performance, and the possibility of customizing the solution for each specific application, ensuring maximum performance, high reliability, and accuracy.
• Advanced Connectivity: Among the new features are hybrid cable transmission, various types of buses, secure communication, and increased data bandwidth, all contributing to more robust and faster systems.
• Simplified Installation: The EnDat 3 interface facilitates system installation thanks to smaller connectors and thinner, more flexible cables, reducing bulk and assembly times.
Predictive maintenance with Advanced Condition Monitoring
Another project that amplifies the benefits of this collaboration is the Advanced Condition Monitoring feature based on Splus, available exclusively on HEIDENHAIN encoders with EnDat 3 interface. This innovative solution analyzes vibrations using the principle of Order Analysis, allowing the correlation of angular position with the vibration measured on the rotating axis. This enables accurate identification of the mechanical component close to failure.
This predictive capability offers numerous benefits for both OEMs and End Users, improving productivity levels and significantly reducing maintenance costs and machine downtime.
Lafert and HEIDENHAIN, joining their forces, are setting new standards in the field of industrial automation, providing solutions that not only improve performance and accuracy but also optimize operational efficiency and predictive maintenance for a more productive and reliable future.
